Cross Country (Co-ed V) Head Coach
Jose Lopez
I’ve been coaching cross country since 2020, and I’ve loved every second of it. There’s something incredibly rewarding about helping young athletes grow—not just as runners, but as people. Being able to serve the Wawasee Community by coaching the boys cross country has been amazing. I use cross country as a way to teach lessons that go beyond the sport—things like responsibility, discipline, and perseverance. My goal is to help athletes develop habits and values they can carry with them long after high school. Coaching is more than a job to me—it’s a chance to make a positive impact, and I’m grateful for every opportunity to do so. -
Cross Country (Co-ed V) Head Coach
Doug Slabaugh
I am honored to serve as the Head Women’s Cross Country Coach at Wawasee High School. My journey with Wawasee Cross Country began in 7th grade, and the program has been a big part of my life ever since. A 2007 Wawasee graduate, I continued my running career at Indiana Wesleyan University, where I earned a degree in Business Management in 2011. Beyond coaching, I help lead my family’s business, which has proudly served the local community for over 60 years. I am also engaged to my fiancée, Heather, and together we are excitedly planning our wedding. Coaching at Wawasee is truly one of my greatest joys. I love guiding athletes through the process — watching them put in the hard work, celebrate their breakthroughs, and achieve great results on the course. Even more rewarding is seeing them grow into strong leaders and individuals who take the lessons from cross country and apply them to life beyond the sport. -

Jamie Salazar
I graduated from Wawasee High School in 1999 and am currently in my 15th season with the Wawasee Wrestling Program, serving in my 3rd year as Head Coach. I'm blessed to share life with my beautiful wife, Cierra, and recently became a proud first-time father to our amazing son, Legend. During my time as a student-athlete, I was a state placer for the Warriors in 1999, went on to become a 3x collegiate All-American, and was honored to be inducted into the Manchester University Hall of Fame in 2019. To me, wrestling is more than just a sport — it’s a way of life. I’m honored to uphold that motto, the toughness, and the traditions passed down by the incredible coaches who came before me. I'm committed to building champions both on and off the mat! -
